All-Central Texas cross country team led by state medalists Conde De Frankenberg and Haley
It was another strong cross country season for the Austin area with plenty of medals and top-20 finishes at the UIL state meet in Round Rock. Both Georgetown teams took plaques in Class 5A and the Vandegrift boys garnered another team plaque in Class 6A. The American-Statesman recognizes the top performers with its 2023 All-Central Texas team.
Boys athlete of the year: Hudson Haley, junior, Vandegrift
Continuing the strong cross country tradition at Vandegrift, Haley finished second at state in a blistering time of 15 minutes, 4 seconds that will have colleges from around the country recruiting him. He also led the Vipers to the second-place team plaque, something the program nabbed for the second straight year.
All-Central Texas boys team
James Butler, senior, Del Valle: Finished his prep career in impressive fashion by taking15th in Class 6A at the state meet in a time of 15:26.
Hudson Haley, junior, Vandegrift: The Statesman’s boys cross country athlete of the year, don’t be surprised if he breaks 15:00 as a senior and is one of the top track and field athletes this spring.
Dylan Schieffelin, senior, Vandegrift: Another big reason the Vipers were second as a team in Class 6A, he finished seventh in Class 6A at the state meet in a time of 15:10 to medal.
Edwin Rotich, senior, Rouse: Took the bronze at the Class 5A state meet with an impressive time of 15:24.
Joseph Wienen, senior, Georgetown: Seventh overall in Class 5A at the state meet in 15:31 to help lead the Eagles to a second-place finish in the team standings.

Girls athlete of the year: Isabel Conde De Frankenberg, senior, Cedar Park
Claiming the fourth top-three finish of her career, Conde De Frankenberg was second in Class 5A with a time of 17:34 seconds. She won the event as a freshman, took bronze as a sophomore and also garnered silver as a junior.
All-Central Texas girls team
JJ Arellano, freshman, Rouse: Broke onto the local cross country scene by finishing 16th in Class 5A with a time of 18:32.
Isabel Conde De Frankenberg, senior, Cedar Park: She’ll run at Oregon next year after a finishing her prep career this spring in track & field.
Miah McAulay, sophomore, Bowie: Claimed a top-15 finish at state by taking 14th in Class 6A with a time of 18:04. Was the District 26-6A runner-up.
Micah Mizell, senior, Stony Point: Ran a flying time at state of 18:07 to finish 17th in Class 6A.
Ava Sieckmann, senior, Georgetown: Led the Eagles to a third-place team finish by taking 18th in Class 5A with a time of 18:39.
